Living 6
One of my pet projects at home has been implementing IPv6. It is not because we ran out of address space, for me that is of no consequence being that like most of us, we are behind a router with Network Address Translation (NAT). But to get familiar with the technology and learn on the different of implementations. I am currently running a tunnel provided by SiXXS in which I provide IPv6 connectivity through out the house. It has been a fun and educational experience.

Need tea...
I had to prepare a brew of chamomile with eucalyptus tea to get some sleep. As of late my sleeping hours have been whacked out.
At least it is Friday...

Yeah, I'm kind of back...
It has been a while since I posted in Live Journal. No real reason other than being busy on my new job, but I hope to peek in here once in a while.

Going Haiku
As of late, I have been playing with haiku-os in a virtual box session. For those who do not know, haiku is an offshoot of BeOS in which it has been open sourced and currently under active development. I have compiled some cursor based applications, mostly to get familiar with the platform. Let's see if I can port more stuff.

BLT+ Project
I just made two holes on the BLT + kit and I noticed that the BNC jacks are not there. Bummer, one trip to Radio Shack.

Map of the towns in Puerto Rico and how they rank in number of murders. Note that the majority of murders occurred in the San Juan Metro area up north (San Juan, Guaynabo and Carolina) and the second largest metropolitan area in the island, the City of Ponce down south. There is an average of 900 murders per year. Puerto Rico has an average population of 4 million people, roughly the same as Ireland, twice of Jamaica (for about the same square mile). This map was developed using QGis with PostGis. The data was obtained from www.tendenciaspr.com
If Puerto Rico were not counted as part of the US by the Interpol, it would be the 5th most dangerous place to go.

The tale of two heroes.
1/15/2009 must have been a busy day in history, it was the day in which two heroes were made, one in life and another in death.
The first hero is Captain Chesley B. "Sully" Sullenberger, III. Which crash landed an A-320 in the Hudson River after the two engines failed after a collision with a flock of birds. All passengers and crew were safe, considering that I live about 40-45 minutes ride from the scene.
The second hero is Mr. Noel Francisco Rodríguez González. He was murdered because he rejected the local "drug pusher" in the neighborhood. He was shot dead because he was "too vocal" about it. Regretfully this will be a crime that most likely never be solved, just tagged along 1,000 or so murders that happen in a year in Puerto Rico in which the police does not have the will, the inclination or the resources to stop all the thousand places in which illegal drugs are sold. So forgotten that it was only cited in a blurb in the local newspaper; soon to be piled up in a cold case file somewhere in San Juan.
If this what's going on in Puerto Rico, it seems that the road ahead looks rather dark, and if my prediction of The Island going on bankruptcy does come true, it will be a rather dark place to live indeed.

I'm on the soup, even though I think it needs croutons. Probably the part I miss was the external application to update off my blog. But, I guess that it would be time to check if anybody is working this or if I have to code one on my own (man, what a drag...) Anyway, I'm waiting for my tea to brew and my podcasts to download on the other computer. Other than that, it's just a normal workday.

Today is a special day for me. Many members of my family have served the military in times of war one way or another. Starting from my grand father in World War I and providing service in Cuba and Mexico. My father was drafted and served the Korean conflict, serving four years. My uncle served in North Africa in World War II. Lastly, two of my brothers in law are currently serving in Iraq. Thank a vet, otherwise, you may not be reading this post today without fear or retribution or censorship.

Listening to a pro-statehood radio show in Puerto Rico, one guy said that the roads in Florida are nice and straight, because they're a state. If you live near New Orleans, you may have a different opinion. The truth of the matters, road maintenance will continue to be crappy no matter if Puerto Rico is a state or continues to be a commonwealth, just because, it'll be the same people running the show, at the end of the day.
I'm glad that the elections are over, in Puerto Rico and the mainland. Although the puertorricans must have a reality check. Just because the pro-statehood party won, it does not meant that Puerto Rico will become a state in the next 4 years.
